Motorists will benefit from faster journeys when hard shoulder running is in operation on the M42 near Birmingham with the speed limit being raised to 60mph following a successful test. The increased speed limit, which will take full effect from tomorrow (16 October), will apply to the whole Active Traffic Management stretch between junctions 3A and 7 of the M42 to the south east of Birmingham, with electronic overhead signs clearly displaying the speed limit. A daytime ban on overtaking for heavy vehicles on two stretches of the A14 in Northamptonshire has been made permanent after a successful 18-month trial resulted in less congestion and improved journey reliability, Transport Minister Andrew Adonis announced today. Iveco has secured a conquest heavy truck order from Tonbridge-based S&S Distribution, which has taken delivery of its first Iveco for its 50-strong fleet of commercial vehicles, which are used on general haulage operations nationwide. The Highways Agency will start work to replace bridge joints on the A38 Egginton Viaduct northbound carriageway, north of Burton on Trent on the Staffordshire / Derbyshire border on Saturday 18 October. The project to improve safety and cut congestion on the A421 in Bedfordshire will get underway on Tuesday 28 October 2008.
